Where BMP's size comes from
BMP stores an uncompressed value for every single pixel, typically 3 bytes for a 24-bit color pixel, with no red-green-blue channel packed tighter than that. A 1920x1080 photo has just over 2 million pixels, so at 3 bytes each that's roughly 6.2 million bytes before any file header is even added, around 6 MB for an image a modern phone camera would capture in a few hundred KB as a JPG. PNG applies real compression on top of the same pixel data, which is why the file shrinks so much even though nothing about the image itself changes.
