Convert GIF to JPG

Free online GIF to JPG converter. Drag and drop files, convert in batch, and download, without ever uploading to a server.

Why convert GIF to JPG?

Convert GIF to JPG when you need a small, universally accepted still image and don't need to keep animation or a transparent background. Common for pulling a clean frame out of a GIF for a thumbnail, an email, or a document.

Tips

  • Only the visible frame is exported. Animated motion is not preserved.
  • GIF's 256-color palette is already baked into the source, so JPG can't add back color detail the GIF never had.

Two compression systems stacked: what happens here

A GIF's colors are already limited to a palette of at most 256 shades before this conversion starts. Converting to JPG applies a second, different kind of compression on top of that palette-limited image, one built for smooth photographic gradients rather than flat indexed color. The result is a photo-friendly file format wrapped around content that was already reduced to GIF's more limited palette. Don't expect richer color just because the file extension changed. What you do get is a smaller file and support in places that don't render GIF stills the way a browser does.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert GIF to JPG?

Drop your GIF file into the converter above, adjust the quality if needed, and click "Convert to JPG". The conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to any server.

Is the GIF to JPG conversion lossless?

JPG is a lossy format. Quality is controllable from 1-100% (default 92%); at recommended settings the result is visually close to the source for most photos.

Is there a file size limit?

The tool can handle files up to about 20 MB per image. Since processing happens in your browser, the practical limit is your device's available memory. Most modern devices can comfortably batch-convert dozens of images at once.

Are my GIF files uploaded to your servers?

No. All GIF to JPG conversion happens entirely client-side. Conversion uses the Canvas API. Your files never leave your browser.

Can I convert an animated GIF and get a JPG for every frame?

Not with this tool. It reads the GIF's visible frame and exports a single static JPG, which covers the common case of pulling one clean image out of a GIF for a thumbnail, a document, or an email attachment. Extracting every frame of an animation as separate images is a different job, usually done with a dedicated frame-extraction tool or a video-editing app. That needs to track timing and frame order rather than just decode one visible image.
